By Bobby Roberts

The Chicago Cubs are in the middle of a long-term rebuilding plan. They are building the team through the draft and their farm system is now one of the best in baseball. Many of those prospects are still a year away, so many Cubs fans are already looking ahead to the 2015 season.

Expect the Cubs roster to looks drastically different by the end of the season. Jeff Samardzija may even be traded before the All-Star Break.

New manager Rick Renteria takes over a team of mostly cheap role players keeping seats warm until Javier Baez, Jorge Soler and Kris Bryant are ready to appear in the Majors.

Can Starlin Castro regain his All-Star form? Will Anthony Rizzo make a leap forward and become a better all-around hitter?

Here is the 2014 MLB season preview for the Chicago Cubs.

2014 MLB Team Preview: Boston Red Sox

By Bobby Roberts
AmericasWhiteBoy.com

Boston went from worst to first to win the World Series. It’s hard to believe that this time last year, we were still talking about ‘chicken and beer’. Manager John Farrell turned around the team at a ‘wicked’ fast rate.

The Red Sox now have a target on their backs. They will get the best effort from their opponents in every game. The Yankees and Rays are extra hungry to knock off the defending champs.

Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Will Middlebrooks, players who have yet to live up to their hype, will be asked to play everyday. Is Boston asking too much?

Here is the 2014 MLB season preview for the Boston Red Sox.

2014 MLB Team Preview: Arizona Diamondbacks

By Bobby Roberts
AmericasWhiteBoy.com

All the moves Arizona made last offseason didn’t do much for their record. They finished the season 81-81 in back-to-back seasons. They even traded their ace Ian Kennedy at the trade deadline.

This offseason, they once again completed one of the biggest offseason trades. They landed outfielder Mark Trumbo and closer Addison Reed, but had to give up one of the top outfield prospects Adam Eaton.

The NL West is improved with the Dodgers becoming a powerhouse and the Giants have all their guys back from injury. It will be difficult for Arizona to hang with those clubs.

Here is the 2014 MLB season preview for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

2013 NFL – Week 12 – Betting Picks Against Spread

By Bobby Roberts
AmericasWhiteBoy.com

Peyton Manning Tom Brady 2013

In a week with little value in any points spread, I managed to go 11-4 week with my picks against the spread last week. I have a 84-54-8 record against the spread this year.

I like a lot of road teams this week in many of the marquee games. The schedule is boom or bust. You have horrible games like Jacksonville at Houston or great games like Denver at New England. I’m sorry if you’re stuck with one of the bad games this Sunday (I suggest you buy NFL Sunday Ticket).

There are four teams on bye this week. That will finally end soon and we will have sixteen games every week. This week, I suggest keeping an eye on injury reports and weather conditions from this point forward.

We pick every NFL game against the spread and throw out a few upsets in Week 12 of the NFL season. [Read more…]

2013 NFL – Week 11 – Betting Picks Against Spread

By Bobby Roberts

Alex-Smith-Peyton-Manning-2013
I started out strong last week, but the late games got me. I had a couple bad beats, but I had a much better week than Ed Reed. I still have a strong 73-49-8 record against the spread this year.

I like a lot of favorites this week, but not in the marquee games. I suggest sleeping in on Sunday, since the early slate of games is atrocious. There are some nice bets, but watching those games will be a struggle.

There are only two teams on bye this week. Finally, the weeks of having a half dozen teams on bye are over. I suggest keeping an eye on injury reports and weather conditions from this point forward.

We pick every NFL game against the spread and throw out a few upsets in Week 11 of the NFL season. [Read more…]

Amanda Bynes is on Mental Lockdown After Incident

By Heather Douglass
PSDC Pop Culture Guru

I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve had my fair share of ripping on the ‘Amanda Bynes downward spiral.’

I’ve backed off once I realized, in my opinion, this wasn’t a spoiled starlet, this was a mental health issue. I’m not a trained psychologist, but Bynes’ behavior isn’t that of a person who’s functioning on all cylinders (again my opinion). Her latest actions, really feels like a cry for help. [Read more…]

2013 MLB Team Preview: Minnesota Twins

By Bobby Roberts
PSDC Staff

The Minnesota Twins are in pretty bad shape…in the short-term. Joe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe had great years last season,

Denard Span and Ben Revere are no longer on the team and their outfield replacements don’t replace their speed and the defensive outputs. Aaron Hicks could proven me wrong, but the jump from Double-A to the Majors is a lot to ask of him this season.

Here is the 2013 MLB season preview for the Minnesota Twins.

2013 MLB Team Preview: Cincinnati Reds

By Bobby Roberts
PSDC Staff

In 2012, the Cincinnati Reds won the NL Central by nine games, but lost in the first round of the playoffs to the eventual World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

Walt Jocketty, the general manager of the Reds, doesn’t want to just make the playoffs, he wants to win. He made a trade in the offseason to acquire Shin-Soo Choo, a move shows the Reds are built to win now.

The biggest offseason news was the decision to move Aroldis Chapman into the starting rotation. He was such a dominant relief pitcher, but the transition has been successful with pitchers in the past. Will Chapman succeed as a starter?

Now that Joey Votto is healthy, will have another MVP caliber year?

Here is the 2013 MLB season preview for the Cincinnati Reds. [Read more…]

2013 MLB Team Preview: Houston Astros

By Bobby Roberts
PSDC Staff

The Houston Astros are in complete rebuilding mode. It will take longer than most teams, because their farm system was completely bare of top-notch young talent. They traded every asset they had and now their farm system is better, but not anywhere near the top. Also, their top prospect, Jonathan Singleton, has been suspended for the first 50 games due to a failed drug test. It will be a rough season in Houston.

Will Houston set a new modern-day record for most losses in a season? Would you go to an Astros game, even if you were given a ticket? It’s insane you even have to pause to answer a question about receiving a free ticket to an MLB game…but, I still wouldn’t go.

2013 MLB Team Preview: Milwaukee Brewers

By Bobby Roberts
PSDC Staff

Many believed the loss of Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun’s steroid suspension (almost suspension) and the eventually trading Zack Greinke away, would push the Brewers down a few spots in the NL Central. They finished the season over .500 and one could argue if they had a competent closer, they could have received a Wild Card spot.

Will Milwaukee overachieve or will they fall down to Earth?

2013 MLB Team Preview: Arizona Diamondbacks

By Bobby Roberts
PSDC Staff

The Arizona Diamondbacks completed one of the biggest trades this offseason. They shipped their presumed franchise outfielder Justin Upton and third baseman Chris Johnson to Atlanta for 3B/OF Martin Prado and mix of young talent.

It would be easy to write Arizona off this year, but this team won their division in 2011 and finished last season with a .500 record. They are going young, but they’re not rebuilding.

Can manager Kirk Gibson push his team and make the playoffs?

Which starting pitcher will step up and help Ian Kennedy lead the staff?

Will Arizona miss Justin Upton’s presence in the middle of their lineup?

2012 NFL Team Preview: Miami Dolphins

By Bobby Roberts
PSDC Staff

The Miami Dolphins are this season’s focus on HBO’s “Hard Knocks”. If you’re not watching this show, I don’t know what to say. It’s riveting television…but after the television show is over, there’s a good chance the public will forget about the Dolphins. The quarterback situation is messy, Reggie Bush wants to be the every-down, feature back and the Dolphins lack a dependable veteran receiver.

How will rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill handle the pressure? Can they hang with the rest of the AFC East?

Here is our 2012 NFL team preview for the Miami Dolphins…out of respect for new head coach Joe Philbin, I will refrain from using potty language. [Read more…]
