Texas Rangers at the Trade Deadline

The Texas Rangers find themselves in an interesting position after today’s 4-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals. They are currently 16.5 games back in the division and 3 games back in the wild card race to the Rays and Yankees. The Rangers have several impending free agents, including Yu Darvish, Andrew Cashner, Jonathon Lucroy, and Carlos Gomez, many of whom would be coveted by contending teams should the Rangers decide to sell. They also have veterans such as Mike Napoli, Cole Hamels, and Adrian Beltre who teams would also likely be interested in.

Why Joey Gallo Needs to Stay in the Big Leagues

There is a lot of talk these days on what the Rangers should do with Joey Gallo when All-Star and Gold Glove third baseman Adrian Beltre comes off the disabled list in a few weeks. While the easy decision would be to send Gallo down to the minors, considering he is boasting a .190 batting average, the Rangers need to look beyond the below-mediocre average and look at what Gallo has done to help them get back to .500 and how he could potentially help them catch the Astro’s for the AL West title.

Reaction to the Brewers-Pirates Bench-Clearing Brawl

So unless you’ve been under a rock or working overtime, you’ve heard about Gomez fight 3.0. This dude has a chip on his shoulder and knows how to stir the pot in the NL Central. In the third inning, Gomez came to bat against rookie Gerrit Cole and in true Carlos Gomez (and Brewers) fashion he lacked hustle on his way to a triple.

The biggest part of the situation was Gomez’s reaction to what seemed to be a bomb to dead center and flipping his bat while jogging to first. But falling short of the fence, the ball bounced on back into play towards center fielder Andrew McCutchen. After rounding first Gomez decided to turn on the burners and blew his way to a triple.
