Caught In The NFL Draft

By Reid Kerr
PSDC Offensive Coordinator

Here’s a secret about the media, one that I have had to learn over my years in Hell as a TV reporter.

The facts are the facts. The facts aren’t necessarily the story. The story is what most people want to know about.

For example, in the first round of the NFL Draft the Tennessee Titans drafted offensive tackle Taylor Lewan. This is a fact. However, unless you are a died-in-the-wool Titans fans or a member of the Lewan family, it’s not much of a story. [Read more…]

2014 NFL Mock Draft, Version 5.0

By David Parks

Finally.

After months of rumors and innuendo, the day is finally here.  Yes I’m talking about draft day, but I’m also talking about the day in which we find out who out there has been feeding us the most BS.

Before we get to the final mock a couple of things…

Without a doubt the hardest position to slot was the quarterbacks.  Nobody, I mean nobody has any clue where any of them are going to go.  And if someone tells you they do, buy a ticket to Vegas and stuff them in your carry-on. [Read more…]

Reid’s NFL Mailbag: The Tears Of A Clowney

By Reid Kerr
PSDC Offensive Coordinator

The NFL Draft took an extra two weeks to get here, leaving a big hole in the sports landscape which we seem to have filled with excitement over next season’s NFL schedule, and the mutterings of a racist 82-year-old guy talking to his mistress.

Rather than dignify Sterling’s comments, I’ll just point out that the fact the NBA has an 82-year-old owner who’s been sued for discrimination multiple times, and who also publicly has a 31-year-old mistress should go to show you there was a bit of a leadership vacuum in the league until this week. I feel fairly sure that with the combination of the Clippers longtime laughing stock status and the legal actions against Sterling for discriminatory practices, the NBA was probably holding out hopes he’d just die and solve the problem.

Anyway, the NFL Draft is finally close, with that in mind, here’s our final pre-draft Reid’s Mailbag of the year. [Read more…]

Garrett Franskousky’s 2014 NFL Mock Draft

2014 final mock draft

FIRST ROUND

First pick: Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

The Texans are a bit of a wildcard at No. 1. As a team that severely underachieved this past year, they don’t have as many significant needs as many other teams picking in the top 5. Jadaveon Clowney will definitely be in play here, as the freakish end has the most value in this class and would solidify an already talented front seven, however a new signal caller will also be considered. The team may not decide between Clowney and talented QB Blake Bortles until draft day, however I doubt the team will want to pass up on a prospect with as much upside as Clowney. An athletic anomaly, Clowney has the speed of a RB and the size of an interior defensive lineman. Clowney has been questioned about his work ethic after a down 2013 season, but his 2012 season shows how easy it is for him to be dominant as he finished that year with 13 sacks and 23.5 tackles for a loss despite frequently getting double and triple teams. Clowney should be a welcome addition to a team that finished 29th in the league in sacks, and with All-Pro end JJ Watt holding Clowney accountable, Jadeveon will have the right mentoring and coaching to see his Hall of Fame potential. Also in wake of the Ryan Fitzpatrick signing, the team can wait on a quarterback till the second or third round. [Read more…]

2014 NFL Mock Draft, Version 4.0

By David Parks

Could it be? A mere two weeks until draft day!

The draft would ordinarily be taking place right now but because the NFL is king they can do whatever the hell they please. Which is why despite both the NHL and NBA Playoffs going on AND MLB’s season going in full-swing, one story will dominate all others come May 8 – the draft.

Sure the NFL season may only be five months long, but damn it if Commissioner Goodell hasn’t made his league a 12-month sport from a coverage perspective. Think about it – what other sport’s schedule release is as covered as the NFL’s? None. Free agency? Maybe the NBA, but only in a year where there are stars (2011).

Yes, the NFL is king and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. But enough boring talk about a league that has more money than it knows what to do with… Onto the rooks.

Despite not playing a game in months, Teddy Bridgewater is plummeting down draft boards.

1. Houston Texans: Jadeveon Clowney, DE – South Carolina

We’ve reached the point of the pre-Draft process that is nothing short of annoying speculation.

“The Texans reportedly showed up to _______ workout!!!” – sources

“Houston apparently wants a QB but not first overall.” – more sources

“The Texans have no f**king idea what they’re going to do yet.” – nobody (but more than likely the truth) [Read more…]

From Johnny Manziel to Jadeveon Clowney – Eminem Style

By Matt Graves
PSDC Contributor

“We’ve created a monster.
Cause nobody’s talking ‘bout Johnny no more.
They want J Clowney.”

Somebody get me in touch with Slim Shady. Or maybe Weird Al. He’s mastered the remake. That’s a hit waiting to be recorded.

Jadeveon-Clowney

Do you remember when we were all crucifying Johnny Manziel because he was…well…he was just…you know…frustrating? He didn’t do anything wrong, per se. But something just didn’t seem right. He went from partying with Drake, to partying with UT fraternities, to signing a bunch of autographs out of the goodness of his heart.

Do you remember when the media was screaming that he was too much of a distraction and there was no way he could duplicate his genius from a year ago? He’d implode and Texas A&M’s season would spiral out of control faster than Miley Cyrus’ twerking.

Do you remember when Johnny Manziel was bad for football? He was everything the prestigious Heisman did NOT stand for. He wasn’t handling himself in a manner worthy of the trophy. They had stripped Reggie Bush and there were whispers of stripping Manziel. [Read more…]
