By Jake Hyman

It did.

carmelo-anthony-sad

The Yankees missed the playoffs, the Mets were the Mets, the Giants and Jets were useless, the Knicks were a joke, no one cared about the Nets, the hockey teams (except for the Rangers, who were the lone bright spot) were listless.

So we will follow suit with the rest of the world here at ProjectShanks.com and give you 10 things to look forward to as a New York sports fan in 2015. [Read more…]

No Way Around It: Roger Goodell Must Go

By Jake Hyman
PSDC Writer and NBA Insider

Ray Rice is finished.

Josh Gordon is done.

Junior Seau is gone.

All three incidents of different severity, all three handled terribly, and one thing in common: Mr. Roger Goodell.

And he must go.

Let me start off by pointing out that in no way, shape or form am I saying Goodell hit Ray Rice’s wife, drove Josh Gordon’s car intoxicated, or delivered the relentless blows to the head of Junior Seau over his career that ultimately lead to his tragic death.

I’m not saying that.

What I am saying is clear: Roger Goodell has mismanaged to almost criminal proportions the problems he has been faced with as commissioner of the National Football League. [Read more…]

The Jason Kidd Debacle and Why It was Inevitable

By Jake Hyman
PSDC NBA Insider

It started in the summer of 2010 when Russian-billionaire owner of the then New Jersey Nets, Mikhail Prokhorov, put up a billboard outside of Madison Square Garden, the home of the New York Knicks, who they hoped would be their new crosstown rival. The billboard contained a photo of Prokhorov to the right of then-minority owner Jay-Z, with the words “The blueprint for greatness” in the foreground. [Read more…]

Let the rumor mill churn.

No guarantees but plenty of questions.

Go Fish: New York Knicks Name Derek Fisher Head Coach

By Jake Hyman
PSDC Writer & Host of the New York Sports Minute Podcast

It took long enough.

But here we are on June 10 and the Knicks finally get their man, or their second man, or their third man, who knows.

We all do know Steve Kerr was Phil Jackson’s, president of basketball operations, first choice. And we all know that didn’t work for a multitude of reasons.

It appeared Derek Fisher was Jackson’s backup plan, considering he would retire after being eliminated from the playoffs with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

That happened and a little over a week later Derek Fisher is sitting alongside Phil Jackson and general manager Steve Mills at a press conference on a Tuesday morning in New York. [Read more…]

This Just In: Michael Sam Was Drafted and We’re Still Stupid

By Jake Hyman
PSDC Writer & Host of the New York Sports Minute Podcast

I shouldn’t have to write about this.

Now that my lede has drawn you in, please allow me a few minutes of your time.

As you know by now, Michael Sam was drafted in the seventh round this past weekend by the St. Louis Rams. Normally seventh-round picks get little to no attention by the press, but Sam happens to be the first openly-gay player to be drafted into the National Football League.

Long story short: that’s a big deal.

Sam breaks through into a notoriously close-minded league and will undoubtedly be a pioneer for future gay athletes. Eventually, we will get to the point where we won’t even need to acknowledge one’s sexuality as part of his scouting report. Unfortunately, that day is not today. [Read more…]
