2017 PGA Championship…A Preview

By Joe Hines, Noted Club Pro

The final major of the golf season, the PGA Championship, is coming up this week at Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina. Plenty of subplots pepper the landscape;  a schedule change has just been announced by the tour for this tourney, beginning in 2019 when it will move to a slot in May from its usual August schedule. The goal presumably, is to wrap up the bulk of the competitive season before the start of football season. Golf doesn’t do all that well in ratings, to begin with, so it only makes sense to give it the best opportunity for the most eyes on it. Since the NFL will lead its minions down the path to gape mouthed wonder as sweaty fat men whack each other beginning just after Labor Day, the PGA would prefer to be done by then. And there is still plenty to be had in the silly season between September and April when the Masters reappears on our screens.

A Quick Look at New Ranger Willie Calhoun

By Lindsey Jones
PSDC Rangers and Cowboys Writer

The Texas Rangers had a tough decision to make this last Monday as the trade deadline approached. Their ace, Yu Darvish, was set to become a free agent at the season’s end and the team’s hopes for a wild card spot in this year’s playoffs seemed to get further and further away. Texas’ GM Jon Daniels ultimately decided he would get something for Darvish now, rather than letting him walk and only getting a compensation pick in next years draft.

By Darreck Kirby
Project Shanks Creative Director

If you pay attention to the NFL, specifically if you pay attention to the Dallas Cowboys, you’ve undoubtedly heard the buzz surrounding the Dallas Cowboys new starting quarterback, Dak Prescott. Going into his second year, the Mississippi State product is looking to build on a season that saw him throw for complete 67.8% of his passes for 3,667 yards, 23 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. That’s in addition to him running for another 6 scores, setting a new single-season franchise record. Prescott was so good, in fact, he ultimately forced then face-of-the-franchise QB, Tony Romo into retirement. But even with the job unquestionably his now, doubt continues to swirl around the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year on the national stage. But before you call Dak the next RG3 or Colin Kaepernick, consider the following:
