On March 1, 1999 legendary filmmaker held a screening for his fourteenth feature film, Eyes Wide Shut, for its stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, along with executives at Warner Bros. Kubrick had declared it the best film he ever made, the result of an over 400 day production, requiring some key roles to be recast and holding Cruise and Kidman in London for the entirety of the shoot. If you Google the meaning of the word “oblivion” you’ll find out it means “the state of being unaware or unconscious of what is happening.” This description also applies to how you will wish you were feeling if you choose to watch the movie “Oblivion,” a 2012 sci-fi flick starring none other than Mr. Crazy Pants Scientologist himself, Tom Cruise.


Cruise stars as Jack Harper, the last drone repairman stationed on a post-apocalyptic Earth. It’s the year 2077 and the planet was all but destroyed 60 years ago during an invasion by the evil “Scavengers.” They ruined our moon, causing tsunamis and earthquakes and widespread destruction before they were defeated by nuclear weapons, all of which left most of Earth uninhabitable.
